Overall impression: We found the show, especially the first half, entertaining and reminiscent of Swedish band ABBA’s famous 1970’s hit songs. We liked the costumes, lighting and choreography. During the show a number of our neighbors were dancing and singing to the music. At times we struggled to identify the ABBA songs, which were incorporated into the story of a young bride who invited three possible fathers to her wedding. We understand how 10 million viewers have attended Mamma Mia! worldwide. At the same time, we felt the performance we saw could have been better.
Lively and enthusiastic, the cast wove an engaging tale in the first half of the presentation. The second half seemed slower and less well rehearsed. We did not like it as much, except for the grand finale featuring ABBA favorites such as “Dancing Queen.” The show ended on a high note including dancing and singing on stage and in the audience; everyone around us was standing by then.
